Sara Kass’s Estate-Plan Gift to Support the Next Generation of PLU Students

Sara Kass, a 1988 graduate of PLU, describes the campus by saying, “It feels like home.”
Sara’s connection to the university is a deep-rooted family legacy that spans three generations. Her story with PLU began before she was even born—her parents originally met on campus. This tradition continued when most of her siblings chose to attend PLU, and, decades later, her own daughter followed in their footsteps, graduating in 2021.
Beyond her family ties, Sara’s life remains intertwined with the community she built during her time as a student. For more than 40 years, she has remained part of a tight-knit group of PLU friends who still gather every year for an annual cookie exchange. She recalls this sense of belonging as one of the most significant aspects of her experience. This environment fostered a lifelong drive to serve others, a value she continues to uphold today through her service as a member of PLU’s Board of Regents.
Reflecting on her journey, Sara notes that while society and the university have changed over the years, the core values remain the same: it is a place where people "find themselves, feel at home, make friends, and build their lives."
To honor the place that shaped her family’s future, Sara has chosen to include the university in her estate plan. Her goal is to ensure that the next generation of students can also grow into leaders who think freely and serve with integrity. As she considers the impact of her life’s work, she asks, “What legacy do you want to pass on to the people you love and those you care about?”
