Jane Lin’s Bequest Will Provide Scholarship Support and More for Future PLU Music Students

Jane Lin

When Jane Lin came to PLU in 1988, she had no idea how much what she’d learn would impact her career today. Jane chose PLU because of a generous music scholarship. While working on her fine arts graphic design degree, she also studied as a vocalist and a percussionist. “My time in music ensembles brought me the biggest joy at PLU, along with lifelong friendships,” she says.

To ensure that her support continues beyond her lifetime, Jane has arranged a bequest to the university in her estate plan. “PLU is such an important place to me. I want to provide for others as I was provided for, to make it possible for those students who don’t have the financial ability to attend PLU.”

After graduation, Jane worked nine years in the tech industry and then nine years as the coaching assistant for the Seattle Seahawks. But her longtime passion was to become a music teacher, so she went back to school. And now, for more than a decade, Jane has been living the dream by teaching K-5 elementary general music. “The skills I learned at PLU from my vocal coach Mira Frohnmayer, choir conductor Dr. Richard Sparks, and percussion professor David Robbins are passed on to my students. PLU has made me the musician I am today.”

Jane hopes others will be inspired to leave a legacy of support for future students. “I’m sure there are other alumni with similar experiences where their time at PLU helped shape their lives,” she concludes. “If they want to consider leaving a gift for PLU in their will, it’s a simple process that will leave a lasting impression.”
